Travel • Suntory Musashino Brewery Tour (Dec 2017)

We went to Suntory Musashino Brewery on Day 7 of our Tokyo vacation, after getting cream puffs at Shiro-Hige. This route was quite straight forward so I recommend putting them on the same day.
The tour at Suntory's beer factory is free of charge! ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪

Reservation is strongly recommended to avoid a wasted trip. Booking is available through their website in Japanese language, do get ready an online translator app if you are not proficient in the language. (I'll update the booking procedures soon.) Otherwise phone reservation is available too, in English. Link is at the end of the post.
It'll take approximately 35 minutes by train if you are going to this brewery from the cream puff shop. Do note there are 2 possible routes available on Hyperdia.com , opt for the route via Meidaimae.

Although it required 2 transfers, it was still faster and cheaper compared to the other route via Shinjuku.
Pass the overhead bridge at Bubaigawara station and hop on the free shuttle bus.
Shuttle Bus Schedule
The shuttle bus runs on an average of 45 minutes interval, so it's important to time the duration of your travel.
During the 70-90 minutes tour at Suntory Premium Malt Brewery, we learnt about how beer is made. The types of hops used, filtration and fermentation process. We got to try and smell the different type of hops, we felt like rabbits! (*^ω^*) Lol! We also saw the factory's packing process through a viewing window.


Although the tour was conducted in Japanese, we were provided with a remote-control looking device for English audio.
Do also note that photography is allowed but not video recording.
To the final and most exciting part of the tour... Beer Tasting!!! ✌︎(*≧∀≦*)✌︎
Every guest was allowed up to 3 glasses of their signature The Premium Malt's beer.


Sit back and enjoy the beer with their tasty savory snacks while watching how their staff pour the beer in perfect 7:3 beer-foam ratio!

Children and underage guests were not neglected. They each received 3 drinks too! Apple juice or iced green tea, Suntory brand no less!
Don't forget to check out the souvenir shop while waiting for shuttle bus back to Bubaigawara station!

Recipe • Luncheon Meat & Potatoes in Baked Beans Sauce

The hubby spotted a can of baked beans in our kitchen cabinet, told me it's been awhile since he last ate Luncheon Meat & Potatoes in Baked Beans Sauce and requested for the dish. Recipe • Nam Yu Crispy Pork 南乳炸肉

This recipe which I'm sharing is an easy & flavorful meat dish. Nam Yu is also known as fermented red beancurd, often eaten as a side condiment with Teochew porridge or used as a marinate for meat. Do give this homestyle Nam Yu Crispy Pork 南乳炸肉 a try! :) Ingredients: 350gm Pork Belly, remove skin 2 cubes of Fermented Red Beancurd + 1tsp of sauce 1 Egg 1tsp minced Garlic 1/2tsp Five Spices Powder 1/2tsp Sugar 2tsp Sesame Oil 2tsp Light Soy Sauce 3/4TBS Oyster Sauce 2TBS Hua Diao Wine Dashes of White Pepper 4TBS (heap) Cornflour Method: •Remove pork belly skin. Cut into 3-4 pieces of 15cm length, 3cm thickness. •Wash and pat dry. •Marinate pork belly with the above ingredients, except cornflour. •Mix in cornflour last, after pork belly is well-mixed with marinate. •Leave in the fridge (Mine was 6hrs, overnight is ok too) •Remove from fridge about 1hr before frying, mix pork belly with marinate again. •Heat oil, deep fry the meat till golden brown.
